It definitely feels like summer is on the way out and autumn is approaching. Which means I finally need to repair the radiator pipes so we can fire up the boiler in the mornings. Welcome back extortinate energy bills for the next 6 months.
We had a lovely long weekend in Bosham; drove down on the Friday night of the Bank Holiday weekend and didn’t strike any traffic whatsoever. The cottage was perfect and the children loved being beside the inlet and seeing the tides come and go. We just spent the weekend pottering around the seafront, wandering through the town and occasionally buying replacement mugs for the ones we broke.
I spent a couple of hours in A&E getting my ribs checked after having an ‘old man’ moment in the bathroom (at home) the week before we went down. Whilst reaching over the bath to shut the window my feet slipped and I fell on the edge of the bath with my ribs providing the not so flexible landing spot. After lying on my back all night I then was convinced they were broken when I tried moving in the morning. Let’s just say I got the same amout of sympathy at A&E as I did from my (nurse) wife.
Seb turned 6 on the 5th September (still unsure how that happened) and we had a small party at home for him. He’ll be heading to Jakes for a bigger party with his friends later in the month. He did pretty well on the present front (thanks Kevin & Kate, Julie & Andrew, Richard & Fiona) and scored a Wii from us. He also started Year 1 at school on the Monday following his birthday and is now back into the routine of school, swimming and cooking (!) with the occasional Wii gaming…
The big news has of course been the Christchurch earthquake. In some ways it’s not the main quake that has caused all the problems – it’s the multitude of aftershocks (some reaching 5.1) that have continued to keep everyone awake at nights, destroy more buildings and generally make everyone nervous.
Take a look at this map to see all the shocks (489 and counting) that have hit the Christchurch region since the original earthquake hit.
On the work front – Lila quit her job at the start of summer which has meant we’ve had plenty of time together as a family over the summer months. She’s now updating her CV and starting to think about finsing some local work that fits her schedule. My work continues to be busy both in the day job and the side projects.
